The emphasis is on the moderate part though. So I think that for the most part, if you drink moderately, it will be fine. But I haven't heard of that happening with nitrofurantoin. My friend had a drink while taking the antibiotic metronidazole once and she did have bad side effects. I think that nitrofurantoin is one of the better antibiotics that is not as dangerous when combined with alcohol. I didn't have any side effects or any problems.
